Water Pythons like to get wet, or take swims for long periods of time. Try getting something big enough that they can get into it and have a dip without the water spilling all over the place. You will find they will swim when they want and their enclosure can still stay relatively dry!
As far as taming goes, I have NT's which are supposed to be more agressive than QLD forms. I never get bit, yet I handle the adults frequently. My hatchlings are fiesty, but if you just pick them up they will relax with you. They are like dogs and can sort of sense hesitation, which leads to them getting all arky and agressive, you need to be strong and confident with them and they will feel it and calm down.
