Retained shed from 2 sheds back

Hi all, just after some opinions before I go for the vet option. My childreni had a bit of retained shed about a third of the way down his body, which I couldn't remove at the time so I waited until his next shed to see what happened. He just shed and it was all complete, plus it looks like the retained shed has come off, but there's still another one on him! I think he must have had it 2 sheds back but I didn't realise (as he was new and my first snake).
I've tried again to remove it with no luck, bathing doesn't seem to make any difference. It seems firmly dried in place, so it is time for the vet or has anyone had luck before getting really old pieces off and if so what was your method?
Thanks.
