I would suggest going with heat cord rather than heat tape. Cheaper, more economical and far easier to deal with. All you need to do is route a groove into a sheet of melamine for it to sit in.

Also, instead of having solid walls and backing like many others, try an "open" design that allows greater airflow. I built mine with solid walls and pegboard back, but then Denver put his own twist on it and built this -

On page is some of his other set ups. His are probably the best rack systems I have seen. Simple, cheap, effective - what else do you need?
