Yeah they give birth to live young, the mum doesn't eat the babies, there have been studies done that stumpies can distinguish between relatives and random individuals by smell so I suspect they can tell which ones are their offspring, also babies come out big so it might be too much to swallow!
They can have up to four young but usually have 2 or 3.
