help about cage sizes

i am just checking and making sure that say u got a snake say a Diamond python that is smaller than 45cm and u put it in a cage that is about 2 m long and 50cm high will it harm the snake
or is it better to have a smaller cage for a smaller snake

p.s i dont have a snake yet i just want to no for later reasons
