Question Research? 95% snake bites from people interfering/killing the snake?

Statements like this are often bandied about:
"Do not try to catch or kill a snake. Statistics show that 95% of people that end up in hospital from snakebite are those that have tried to kill or interfere with the snake"
Before I use this info though, I would like to confirm where these stats came from and if they are from good research. Ive done a search on google but no joy.

Anybody know where these stats came from?
