I would never try and hurt a cat, killing it humanely is however the only way to prevent animal cruelty and killing of protected species. In Qld it is a legal requirement to eliminate feral cats on your property as they are a declared pest. Keeping stray/feral cats alive in shelters wastes heaps of tax money that could be used to help save our native animals. They are no more or less worthy as a food item than a rat.
