I would be feeding a snake that size a fuzzy rat every about every week or so. As far as handling it goes, just leave it to settle for a bit and get it out with your bare hands, it may bite but it wont cause any real damage(keep away from your eyes lol). In time it will calm down and/or you will learn how to pick it up without being bitten. Move steady and confident and dont worry about it biting.
