Insect identification

Heya guys..

Brief story as to how I found these insects.

Was walking along a road (no lights around) and saw a tiny blue flash of light at the edge of the road, halfway up some long grass. I thought i imagined it, so kept walking, but kept watching that spot. again, the tiny blue light flashed. I have a small mag light on my keyring, so walked over and put my light on the grass; couldnt see anything. but i was certain i saw it, and a friend who was with me also said they saw it. we continued walking, wondering what it could of been. then i spotted another light, this time in short grass, so i walked over, waited for it to flash again, and shone the light on teh grass and briefly saw a tiny insect. i kept walking, and saw another flash, this time a green one. again, i went over, and this time saw the insect in detail;

it was really tiny, looked like some type of beetle, had black "wings" and on the outer edge of these it had a lighter grey strip outlining them. the front part of this critter was a reddish brown colour.

does anyone have any idea what it is??
