Sometimes he'll snap at them but won't coil or take them and if i leave the food alone with him in the enclosure, he just ignores it completely!
Mind you it was already round 2 weeks since his last meal on that date i got him, so im guessing its been a bit over a month now, but like everyone keeps assuring me, he's probably still trying to settle in and I know some snakes can go upto 12 months without food.. It's just that nagging nurturing instinct inside me, i wanna make him eat!! lol |
if the temps are high enough there is no reason why he should not eat try washing a rat in warm water to get most of the smell off it and make sure it is warmer than ambient temp.
the smack the rat against the ground or firm surface by its tail to get a bit of brain juice and blood out of its nose ( bit gross) or cut into the rats head.
and offer the rat to the snake jiggle it a bit by the tail, keep an eye on the snake and make sure it is focused on the rat not your hand.
when it strikes at the rat try and hang on to the tail and play a bit of a tug of war with him till he throws a coil around it .
Or alternatively drop a live rat in with him make sure it is not big enough to harm him.
