Red bellies are fairly widespread so he's probably right. They are unmistakeable really. But you will find it hard identifying it because you didn't see it yourself. Take a friend and go walk around your property. Thats the best way to find what lives there. I also recommend a book called "A complete Guide to Reptiles of Australia". Great dictionary of our native reptiles & where they are found.

BTW - if you go wandering, don't forget to carry first aid gear with you.
