It really shouldn't matter too much with the eye, because they have a scale over their eyes. The worst of his damage to the eye is probably not being able to see. This happened to my own spotted not long ago. Creepy, no? I soaked her in 80% - 20% water and washing up detergent, luke warm for 15 - 20 minutes, and then peeled the tape off. If you're going to do this, then make sure you go in the direction that the scales angle down the body (from head to tail) if you can.

I'm not actually sure if it makes a difference, but if tape got onto my jack russell, I wouldn't pull in the opposite direction (tail to head).
