| Timotei,
We recently tried this topic for our vertebrate evolution course. There is BUGGER ALL info out there. Pretty much atm it is thought that these never developed as opposed to secondarily lost but this is maily because of the standard process of accepting the easiest route as opposed to any actual research.
Some people have actually proposed that they do have heat pits found under the top lip in the arch where the tongue flicks out. We were contemplating trying to get hold of some neonatal specimens that had died and doing some nerve stains to see if we could see similar structures compared with labial pits in stimmies and carpets. This all fell through so you are welcome to it. Good luck and please let me know what you discover!
