UV Light

i recently bought a ZooMed UV Light that emits both UVA and UVB for my children's python. My mate then started having a go at me, saying that the snake is nocturnal, therefore it doesn't need UV light. I'm just wondering if this is true, and if i've gone and wasted my money.

cheers
