antivenom is a schedule 4 drug so no you can't buy it or administer it yourself. To keep some on stand by just incase isn't really an option. It costs a fortune, it has a limited shelf life. Even if you are bitten it's not a simple as getting a shot in the arm and heading home from the hospital. The anti venom itself can cause complications, sometimes as bad as the venom if you have an allergic reaction to it.

Also remember what I often call "exotic" species for the state of Victoria, like death adders. There are only so many hospitals that stock antivenin for them - the city does, but that's because they are close to Melb Zoo. You'd be best to stick with local species or ones that respond well to tiger snake antivenin IMHO. You're doing the right thing getting a feel for it. No point pretending a bite will never occur
