I'll give you an example of when I got my first python:

The first python that I got was a 4 week old Stimson Python:

Stimson Pythons grow to 1m max in length, come in a variety of colours and are generally well priced depending on where you buy, they're hardy and easy to look after.

Basic Hatchling Click Clack Set Up: ( general things you'll need )

Click Clack 10 - 20L : Price Between $10 - $20 (depends where you shop) You will need to put holes in the click clack for ventilation ( I used a soldering iron)
Heat Mat: Small - Medium Sized depending where you get it from: Price $40 at a guess
Substrate: Paper Towel or Newspaper works fine
Hides - I have 2 hides in the click clack set up
Small Water Dish
Branches

Picture of an Adult Female Stimson Python I have, she is 95cm in length:

Adult Stimson Python Enclosure: (this is what my Stimsons have)

Enclosure Size: 900x600x600 (length x width x height)
Glass Lock
Ceramic Heat Emitter
Light Cage Cover
Thermostat
Thermometer
Decent Sized Water Bowl
Hide Rocks
Large Branch
Large Log
Fake Plants
Paper Towel as the substrate

Each species of snakes have different requirements for their care, so it'd be best to do some research, find what species of snake you would like to keep and then go from there.

Cheers,

Chris
