You can keep them in Vic, and you only need an advanced licence to keep them.
I keep both monitors and crocs and IMO crocs are way easier to look after. Put a good filtration on the croc tank and it beats cleaning the paper, walls, glass and anything else in the monitors enclosure ever 2nd day.
Little fuss really, feed and keep the water temp above the mid 20's and ambient air temp during the day at mid to high 30's.
You can buy them at an early age but would recommend an older one if you are going to freight them in from somewhere as they are real sooks when they are under 12 months old.
