It's probably more a matter of snake size than age . I've fed chicken necks & just gauged it from the size of the rat that a particular snake could be given. Chicken necks are fairly big though & i've never given one to a python that's under about a year old.
I've tried them with all my decent sized snakes : Childreni & Bredli loved em . My Jungles & my Diamond didn't go for them at all.
I don't feed them as a regular thing , just grab a few at the butcher every now & then.
If you do it , check that they don't have sharp splintered bone sticking out of one end though.
