Personally, i'd be offering heat during the day. I know a lot of people up north don't feel there is a need but i wouldn't take the risk. The majority of pythons have a preferred body temperature of around 30 degrees, and if they're only getting ambient temps it could cause some health issues to arise.
Your male should have a change of attitude when the cooler nights kick in. Just be patient and do what you can to get the night time temps down a bit - leaving the window open during the night should help.
