I have just posted in another water dragon thread about a disease that they can get from their water. I only found out recently about this disease. Many many years ago (1992) I bred my first clutch of water dragons. I kept them in a fish tank and used river pebbles to build up a land section. The tank hade fixed water in it as opposed to a water bowl. The dragons all ate well but over a few months they all died. They also had that open mouth thing happening. I have a sad suspicion that your dragoins may have the same disease that mine got (I can't remember the name). This disease comes about by dragons drinking water that they have excreted in. And water dragons love to excrete in their water.

It is because of this grave mistake that I made that I now recommend that people NOT have fixed water sections in their water dragon tanks. You need to change the water in their enclosures daily or they will get sick.

I hope that this is not what has happened to your dragon Benito.
