Dying for a Snake

hey guys,
I really, really would love a snake but have no idea what i'm up against. i have a few different monitors & dragons and never thought i would come to want to love a snake, but i cannot resist.

I have had to talk my husband around as he was toatally AGAINST snakes. He said i can get one if it doesn't grow over 4ft.

I have never held a snake before and have no idea about behaviour. I have been doing some researching to build my knowledge and am learning some interesting facts.

Any ideas on what snake i should get for my first, and especially DO'S & DONT"S.
