hooks

Ok I'm nmot sure wher this should go, so i'm gonna put it in chit chat.
How big do snake hooks have to be?
because I was thinking of making a couple.
would a hook about 2cm wide and high with a bit of wire about 4cm high on the other side be big enoug for a juvinile-yearling snake?
if not how big do they have to be?
If so, I was thinking of putting a clay handle around the last cm of wire so that the handle goes to about 5cm longer, and what would I have to do to stop the wire coming out from the wire?
Or would it be a better idea to just encase the hole hook in clay so the end doesn't damage the snake?
And is clay bad for snakes?
Also(last question I promise) how long away from the part that comes back up again should the handle go?

cheers,
Will
