Mel - what im about to say is N.S.W... i think its QLD as well but i could be wrong, so sorry. BUT
an import/export permit is a one off, if you are going to export a reptile, say this blue tongue, you apply for a permit to export 1 blue tongue, which lasts for up to a month. it's not a new class of licence or anything..
