i use hot water (not boiling) just off hot from the tap (about 70 deg c ) place them in there and depending on the size of the food you may have to vary the time in the water, large rats take about 30 mins (you have to change the water at about 10 then 20 mins to keep the heat up)

this is the best method i have found because you are giving them food that has a simulated body temp and the moisture helps it slide down better
