It is all wishy washy observations based on colour and pattern. The phenotypic variation in carpet snakes is massive to say the least, hence their sub species name "variegata"

Without genetically mapping every population in the country so as you could theoretically compare samples with, we will never know the origins of our animals. This would be hugely expensive and will never happen.

So the only people who know what they have in terms of bloodlines and the rest are those who captured the animals themselves.
