Ricko,

I you want to keep a large elapid, than I would have to say you can not go past a Red Belly for your first one. These guys become very placid in captivity, more so than any other species. The only time you have to be carefull with them is at feeding time. When they smell food they go into a feeding frenzy and will bite anything that moves, including themselves. Boy do they like to eat. Now even if you are bitten by one there is very little chance of death.

If you wanted to keep a deadly elapid, than you really can not go past Death Adders for the first of these. As long as you handle them with a hook, and keep yourself at a body length from them, than you should never get bitten. Unlike the others that can leap out of their cages at high speed as soon as you open their cages and bite before you can react.
