I usually hook the snake with my finger and then allow it to find its own position. No holding, just supporting.
As Sxe says. The biting doesnt hurt.
Some snakes are just not comfortable with people.

I didn't really agree with it when he first told me, but I own a few of his snakes now, and they are all tame as. He has been keeping his whole life...same with his father, and yeah, I've seen it work. It's not like he's violent, just restrains it for a few seconds. They put 2 and 2 together and realise after a while...
