I can understand Bryony wanting an Emperor. I'm not interested in getting an Aussie scorpion because they are not exciting at all. The ones I'v seen in pet shops are little brown things that are flat as anything and spend all day sitting in a corner or in a burrow doing nothing.

The Emperor Scorpion (Pandinus imperator) is big (up to 20 cms), jet black, and impressive as all hell. They are fat and have enormous pedipalps (claws). Put one of these on your hand and it will impress anyone! None of the scorps I've seen for sale in Australia come anywhere close to these black beauties.

It's like comparing a large female Bird-Eating spider as a pet, to a Daddy Long Legs. I know which I would rather.

I should point out, in case anyone misunderstands, I am NOTcondoning the importation - legal or otherwise - of exotic scorpions, merely stating that once you've seen an Emperor, the Australian ones pale in comparison.
