Yes, snakes can get too hot. If u have a big enough waterbowl, they'll spend a bit of time in that. Not sure on the side effects tho, I guess a lot like anything else that gets too hot.

As for too cold, I've got a heated hide box down the bottom of the enclosure so he's always got the choice to warm up if he wants (not that he has, he spends most of his time in the roof hide or branches)
