Indeed, direct sun is not nessesary, i have all my lizards, my snake, my turtles, and my frogs outside regularly for uv, generally in shade (particularly frogs) its far easier than "running from the advancing sun, and I can give them more hours in shade than if i have to keep moving them to prevent overheating.

note: they do get direct sunlight when I have time to keep an eye on them. :wink:
