We have just finished watching the Reptilemania DVD that the Herp Shop has just started selling. I was sceptical knowing that it is an US based production but the commentary is by Adrian Hemens – an Aussie. Adrian has obviously played the major role in the production of this video.
It starts off with a bit of the history of corn snakes and how they helped kick start the herp hobby in the US and led to the designer morphs of many species that are currently available.
Judy (trader), I and our daughter watched the DVD with interest. Our collective jaws dropped when they started showing the immense (HUGE) breeding facilities of some of the larger breeders. I have seen photos of the Barkers set up and thought that massive but some of these setups were amazing in comparison!
Everybody who is in the who’s who of reptile breeding seems to get interviewed and demonstrates their breeding tips.
There is a segment with Greg Maxwell showing off his chondros which I found of interest particularly seeing on DVD some of the setups he describes in his book. (The Complete Chondro.) Other names I recognised included Bob Clark, Mark O’Shae, Bob Applegate and Jim Flaherty.
It is just a real eye opener and a must have. (and at $20 a pop reasonably priced also!)
The production quality is excellent and if you have the full on “Home Theatre system” you won’t be disappointed. (Alas we don’t but my computer does a reasonable job albeit with cheap speakers etc.)
This is intended as a review so I have put it in the general section but if the mods want to move it to the “for sale” I suppose that is ok.
