They may be a bit of a handful, requiring a 2nd person to help hold larger specimens but they are reasonably docile as adults. Younger specimens may remain flighty but even then they're usually reluctant to give a good bite.

I think coastals make an excellent first python.

I'm not big on cage height. My adult coastals are in enclosures with dimensions 1.4m long, 65cm wide and 50cm high.

I think you may want to go higher in height, though. Many people have 1m as their enclosure height.
