I'm curious as to why keepers think young snakes "seem to do better on rats" - in all the literature I've read, there is no evidence for that at all, regardless of whatever the nutritional differences may be. The only reason I move up to rats is because mice are becoming too difficult for a snake to handle. if you fed mice to one snake, and the same weight of rats to a similar snake, you would not be able to tell the difference in their growth rates (except that some snakes just grow a bit faster regardless of how much they're fed...)
