You're right about what needs to be kept in your record book.
We don't keep detailed records of all of the older snakes we have (slacker that I am, will work on it shortly though) but the hatchlings and juvies are usually recorded so that when they're sold we can provide the details to buyers when requested. Keeping records for all your animals isn't a bad idea though, especially if (and hopefully this wont ever be an issue for you) they get sick and you need some idea of how they've been feeding etc to take to the vet.
