They also produce UVC which is bad for your herps, it is damaging to the retina. At the time Greg did his paper it was not known and has since been found through tests in the U.S. I would not recomend using them, but that is just my opinion. It is not worth the possibility of damaging your herps.

Also, if you leave the glass on the globe, it stops the UV. So, if you do use them with the glass removed you run the risk of them exploding like herptrader said, if you leave the cover on, you don't get any UV. So there is no reason to really use them IMO. Go for a UVB 10% fluoro of sorts, whether batton or compact or if you want heat and light, go for an Oz Bright.
