I agree with Slateman - Chlorhexidine is a better disinfectant/wound cleaner than betadine. I've been told by my vet that the strong iodine content in betadine can be very corrosive and irritating on sensitive tissue. If it is scalerot, it is usually promoted by extended exposure to wet or damp substrates, and because it involves the full thickness of the skin it will take a long time to heal and will usually scar as well. As Slateman says, it will start shedding pretty frequently when it begins healing, but a full recovery is probable.
