How small is too small?

I was at a really dodgy petshop today and saw a 2yo Spotted Python for sale and the python is in it's hideaway which was an overturned pot. To me, this pot seemed way too small. How can I best describe it. Well in the enterance hole, the snake had alot of it's body bulging out. It was like the pot was busting at the seams. Is this alright or is this much too small like I think it is? I was going to say something to the workers but didn't want to just incase.
