I know the mesh you're talking about. Dalbarb use them in their reptile cabinets and their light cage is the same. Probably a place that sells exhausts for cars, a Metal-Mart place or somewhere that specialises in mesh as such should have it. Otherwise, any finer metal insect mesh would be ok.
Someone told me, if you take the covers off the the down lights your pet would receive beneficial UV as well. I plan on using them when I upgrade Opals' tank.
