It may well be used to live food, but being injured the animals movement would be restricted and therefore more vunerable to attack especially from a rat or mouse. I wouldn't even put a live rat in with my Taipans or Scrubbies. Nasty little suckers they are.

Wild or not, I would only be giving it dead food items.

Has it been to the Vet?
Reptiles are good at hiding major injuries. Probably would be a good idea to properly find out the true extent of the injuries as it may look ok but the injury may be slowly killing it. Being whacked, it may have as stated bruising and busted ribs but you could also be looking at internal bleeding and ruptured internal organs.
