Who uses Crushed walnut shell as a floor covering for pythons? Is it a good substrate

I was told this crushed walnut shell is a very good flooring as it is very absorbent and easy to scoop out etc.

What I want to know is....can it harm a python? If it's digested I was told it is ok, but what about scratching etc while pooping..

I saw it in the shop and it kinda looks like couscous. (pasta)
