All pets (and humans) should be wormed regularly including reptiles.
worms can be picked up anywhere - even putting your herp out on the grass.
it depends on what animals have had contact with that area previously. some parasites can live in soil/grass etc and wait for animal contact. water that is not boiled first can also contain a lot of parasites as well.
You often wont know that the reptile has worms so better safe than sorry
(Im studying parasitology this semester and its making me paranoid )
