My daughter and I were given what I believe to be reasonable advice, and so far so good. When removing the snake from its enclosure to be handled etc, always use a hook. The snake soon learns that its not dinner time and settles quickly. Anything other than the hook that enters the enclosure becomes associated with food and is fair game.

Hope this makes sense.
