feeding him

You shouldn't have bought something which was not feeding.
any way you are attatched to it now so you need to get him feeding within the next couple of months.
What scenting did you use skink or bird?
try both.
The hair idea works well as long as the fuzzie is only about 6 or 7 days old.Too big otherwise.
Keep the room dark so he can't see you or other movements to distract him.
They sometimes will not feed if there is large things (you) moving in the background as they may be frighteded or nervous. They will always check their safety first before doing anything like feeding as this makes them vulnerable.
No offence to vets but a reptile vet is usually NOT A REPTILE KEEPER with the relevant experience.
They are never one and the same.
get an experieced keeper if you have to force ASSIST feed.
someone who HAS DONE THIS BEFORE

You can wiggle a live fuzzy against his body and he might coil around it and constrict it.
If this happens MOVVE AWAY SLOWLY and close the door and don't go back until morning.
Is he on the floor of the cage or in a tree when you are attempting to feed him?
