I thought (from memory an American) that the seven generations thing was used as an example by someone to prove that continual breeding from the same clutch produced no negative results....they got to seven generations and stopped the experiment as they theorised that if their was going to be a problem it would have surfaced by at least the seventh generation. Thus, as their was no problem after seven generations there would be no problem with subsequent generations.
