I heard this evening from the local Fauna Rescue lady Paula, who handed the rescued MD over to Parks and Wildlife on Monday. Apparently it was operated on by Ian Hough, the Adelaide Zoo Vet yesterday.. It has survived the surgery, and the last Fecal Stone(which was about the size of a baby Turtle shell), was removed from its Intestine. It would not have been able to pass this stone on its own, thats for sure. The next 48hrs are crucial, as it might not recover from being put under anaesthetic. It is most likely being sent off to Cleland Wildlife Sanctuary for recovery. If it recovers, there is the problem that they have to work out its natural diet and get it feeding again. So I guess it will have to have some sort of live food to feed it up into a condition prior to release? Apparently if it recovers, but is not suitable for release back into the wild, Parks and Wildlife will probably get its gender determined and use in a breeding program. Hope poor Snakey recovers. That was our only worry, and we are glad that it is in more qualified hands than ours. Have received a receipt today from Parks and Wildlife saying that Snakey has been handed over. Cheers Cheryl
