I used to have fake grass and have recently changed to sand.
I find it retains the heat better overnight and yet there is always a cool spot in the cage if the want to cool down in the sand also.
I think it looks heaps better than the grass, being a more natural sybstrate for my dragons.
And i think they have been much happier on the sand.
