nocturnal blue tongue :S
Hello all,
Just wondering if anybody else has experienced their blue tongue preferring to eat and bask during the night?
Could it be the warm summer causing this?
My only guess is that during the stimulated light hours, because it is too warm for the basking lamps to be on (tank temp. about 29-30degrees), my 'bluey' is hiding in his hole until the temperature drops to a point when the lamps will turn on. The heating lamps are also the 'red glowing type', which might be another consideration. Suppose i could remove his food during the night, giving him no other option but to come out during the daylight hours, but im very interested to hear if anyone else has had any similar expereiences.
So please post away
Thanks,
Ryan
First reptile--> eastern blue tongue... Also have an axolotl (wild-type), 3 dogs (Belgium shepherds) and 1 cat (just plain annoying) -
Lots of blueys come out during the night time, Especially when there is a heat source available. What species of bluey is it?

Its a eastern 'bluey'.... so i shouldn't try and alter his habits?

you should never try and 'alter' an animals natural habits. theyre bui8lt that way for a reason. usually its safer for babies to come out at night as there's less of a threat of being carried away by a predator bird and so on.

my guys will bask at night if the light is on, they will also bask during the day if the light is on, but my lights are on all day and off at night they sleep at night come out and bask during the day when they want and there enclosures are well big enough for them to go hide in a cool area if they like. but yes they will come out what ever time as long as theres a warm spot. e.g a rock that was sitting in the sun all day
he was being good and i let my guard down...........and he bit me on the face!! -
yeah - don't try to alter the habits - just let it be and when he becomes comfortable enough to come out - he/she will.
