my favorite is the snake opening its mouth to see if it can swallow you ............
-
I have heard that story about the snake sizing up the owner, except the version I heard was it was a woman, and that the snake had been starving itself for weeks, then she woke up with it lying next to her. I know it's crap, but when you think about it... it is just a little bit creepy...

thanks everyone, thought I was correct in thinking that it was just over the top and probably fear of snakes making them think this way. -
Snakes definitely have the ability to cause a serious injury (the larger ones at least), even my 4 1/2 foot MD can really get around your neck. But killing and eating someone- nope.
-
I've had about 20 different people tell me the story about a snake sizing someone up to eat them. When you tell them it's not true they get really annoyed with you! Too many people believe everything they're told without bothering to research it for themselves... that's why tabloids are so popular -
A large Scrub Python definatly has the potential to kill a human and has done so in the past.

Really? Do you have a reference?
Must have been some scrawny, drunk reptile keeper who didn't know what he was doing.

Ok here's the proof this is a pic of my daughter showing my Olive alseep in the bed .She used to sneek in between the missus and i during the night and stretch out for warmth nothing more .So to all the people out there that have heard stories of snakes getting into bed the answer is yes it is true but as far as sizing the person up for a feed it's a classic a friend of a friend of a friends mate story .All B/S.

Srubbies, Olives, and even large Carpets are easily capable of killing a human, we come in different sizes too!, the python that killed that little boy in the US recently was only the size of a averagely large carpet...
Herps.... an itch that just never goes.... -

Feel free to apologise anytime soon.
P.S. He was over 6 feet tall and had more experience with large boids than anybody in Australia.
