Definitely put a cage over the light

Thats quite large for a Stimson - 300 - 400mm square would be adequate.

IMO its fine for an adult and would be ok for a small python if properly sheltered, IMO a light cage wouldnt be needed if your not using a thermostat.
Those temps sound good just keep an eye on them as the climate/room temp changes and change the wattage of the bulb if required.

For a younger one I'd get a small plastic container for it and put that inside the one you have for the first year or so.
Also cover light and drop the temps a few degrees.\"The less a man makes declared his statements, the less apt he is to look foolish in retrospect\"

the cage is overkill for a young one but that is OK. Buy a hatchie tub and keep it inside your cage. Get a bigger tub in a year and then let him out in a couple of years time. Mind you, tubs are better on heat mats so they can get a gradient.
