New BHPs any feeding tricks ?
Hi All , I am from Southern Africa , these are my first ''Melano's'' ever !! , can any of you share any tricks, tips or experiences in getting them to feed ? I have force fed them one meal so far ! -
im not to sure i own to yearlings the female is an awsome eater gently taking it from my hand though the male was a problem he will only eat in a little tub and i have to leave the food in there alone with him... try that maybe there just shy... iv even got them on chicken necks along side rats... so much cheaper n ads a bit of variety

Nice small tight hide box positioned at warm end of cage, ensure animals are left alone and keep them as stress free and quiet as possible.
Offer food at night before you go to bed. Leave the food directly outside the hide head first. Ensure the fuzzy rat (if frozen/thawed) is heated up nice and warm and you can even puncture the skull and smear a bit of "brain fluid" over the head to add extra scent/smell.
As said leave it outside the hide and leave the snake alone until the morning.
Alternatively use the same method above but either with a live or fresh killed fuzzy rat, or try scenting the food item with a lizard/skink.

Check the temps keep between 32 - 33 leave him be for a week try feeding in a week before you go to bed you can try braining them. Shouldnt need to if temps are right and left alone for awhile, If he doesnt feed just wait another week
